AI
The AI are genetically altered human/animal hybrids created by ASACO to fight the vampire and demon scourge. Most chosen by ASACO, are done so against their will and are given a serum created from 5 years of testing a research to force the human body to bend to that of a chosen animal subject. This first dose is given right away after attaining a human subject. They are left in a cell, to let their body adjust to the horrific pain of changing ones inner body, as well as exterior appearance. If said subject survives the first round, with the now higher survival rate of 46%, they are given only two more does over the next few days to make sure the body accepts what has happened. These secondary and final injections are much less painful and have a superior survival rate of 94%. After making it through the first week subjects begin training in an attack manner as well as practicing their shifting capabilities.
An AI may achieve only 3 or 4 characteristics of their chosen animal. For example a rabbit might experience stronger leg muscles, a heightened sense of smell and eye sight and perhaps better hearing. Also they take physical characteristics to their animal like eyes, tails, ears, tuffs of fur or scale, and even tougher nails and spines. These usually correspond with the previous talents seeing as the human body can only enhance so far. Example for a bat, they would acquire the ears due to the fact a human ear is not at all ready to take on sonic sound waves. Another such example would be a tail. If and AI were given heightened muscles for speed they would get the tail needed for balance. Etcetera.
When an AI is chosen from the orphanage or streets, it is usually between the ages of 9-14 for guys, and 8-13 for girls. This is due to the fact that a person going through puberty has been found to be more accepting of the alterations to their body due to the fact they are already going through a human metamorphosis. After being taken it usually takes up to 4-6 years to complete the changes necessary to achieve an AI. Also this time includes the training and discipline before they can be released into society to complete their given task.
EI
EI’s are the newest form of solider ASACO has put out, slightly superior to the AI they are nearly 50% of both given creatures, human and animal. These monstrous fighters are the SWAT of ASACO and are on the harder end to control. Retaining less human traits then the AI, they are subject to a given animals instincts as well as high bursts of rage. Unable to shift they are given more animal characteristics to start with. The procedure to create such a viscous being is far more difficult. After being given twice the initial dose of serum of their animal they must be kept in an ICU room on many forms of life support to make it through the first adaption to the chemicals. Next they are given altered forms of steroids also tweaked to their chosen creature. Lastly they are given a secret concoction that stops there shift in its tracks allowing them to stay at the half way point usually standing bipedal but with nearly complete animal attributes. An example, close to this look, would be Werewolf or Minotaur. Unable to turn to their full animal, or back to the previous human they were, these creatures can become easily frustrated and so are usually kept in safe quarters and only let out when necessary. They are also used to aide in training AI’s.
The EI process has a sad survival rate of 21% and even then many can become destructive of their own body so when one is a success it is treated well. The EI also cost far more to create and so are less prominent in the company holding facility. Like the AI, EI’s are taken around the same youthful age. The only difference is the process to alter an EI is far longer than for AI’s. Usually an EI is not let to run lose until around an age of 24-26. Also because of the higher risk of losing their temper, EI’s are trained and disciplined far longer and usually are not let out nearly as often, and are never allowed to take up accommodations in the outer world. This rule is only bent on extreme well behaviour, and trust worthy conduct.
Collars
Usually worn as a bracelet or anklet this device if very high tech, and also is necessary when releasing an AI or EI into the outer world. The “collars” transmit a GPS signal 24/7, as well as monitor and transmit vitals, neural activity back to ASACO. Unknown to anyone accept Lucca, Dr. Baxter, Dr. Swift, and 2 other medics there is a back up set in every subject. A form of chip place in a top secret area of the body providing the same information as the “collars”.
Another feature of the “collars” and implanted devices, are that they have electro sedatives able to render any subject completely paralyzed if not unconscious. This setting can be triggered remotely or if any of the monitored vitals are exceeding dangerous or improper levels (sexual arousal, unreasonable anger, and any strong mental urges to flee or remove said “collar”, etc).
