An argument raged on between two interns, one a female with light brown hair and pink streaks and dark brown eyes, and a male with short shaggy blond hair and dark green eyes.
"FINE!!! I'll just go get Dr. Baxter and prove you wrong!" shouted the girl as she stormed into the break room, hoping that Dr. Carlisle Baxter was in there, putting off work like normal. she sighed and sat down after she got a cup of coffee, trying to keep her head from expanding in her anger, literally.
She sighed slightly and put her head into her hands and shook as she almost changed into a wolf and went out and mauled that guy. She bit her lip hard enough to make her tear up and let one loose. She shook her head and wiped away any other tears that might have come after that. she shook her head and sighed, keeping calm and putting her hands on the table beside the coffee cup and closed her eyes, trying to relax, taking deep breaths.

Carlisle was already in the break room. He was currently eating someone else food it looked better then going out and getting his own food. Carlisle was not known for cooking his own food. Some people in the office believe he doesn’t even know how to cook at all. But only Carlisle would ever know if that is true or not. Ever since working here he has not had much of a social life at all. No girl friends or boy friends, not even sure if he had just friends, he mostly just worked, went home and came back to work. If he did have a social life it was very separate.
He watched Ula storm into the break room, seemed something really pissed her off. He sighed a little, seemed she did not even notice he was there. But he did not make him self known watching her waiting to see what she was going to do. She was taking in deep breaths, calming her self down, which was a good idea probly. He had no idea what was going on.
He finally stood and walked over to her, “Miss. Paili is something the matter?” Carlisle finally asked sitting at the table she was at.

Ula looked up at the very man that she had been going to look for. She blushed slightly and looked down again. she took another deep breath and put on a charming smile up at him.
"Just Jon thinking he knew what goes through the EI's heads when he spends no time with them." she laughed lightly at the irony. No one knew what was going on in their heads besides that EI's themselves. she sighed slightly and swirled around the coffee in the cup and sighed.
"I spend so much time with them that I know more about them then most of their handlers.... I'm actually beginning to think they're starting to trust me..." she said and sighed slightly.
"But he's saying that he knows them better and that he wouldn't be able to even touch them... But if they trust him, why wouldn't they let him touch them? He says it's all about them thinking that he'll kill them if he touches them... But every time I'm down there with him and them, he hurts them... and that's the only contact he has with them... He says it's only a precautionary gesture to do that... But all he dose is hurt them... They have feelings don't they? I've seen them play with each other, they love mind games, and they've played the games with me..."
she shook her head and sighed slightly. "Never mind Dr. Baxter. I shouldn't bother you with trivial things like this...." she said and looked down at her untouched coffee

He rose a brow when she smiled at him. He just simple took a bite of the food he had.
Jon, who was he again, Carlisle thought to him self. “The EI are, well were human, so they think like humans do, they are not fully monsters needing to be punished, the best way to train any human or animal is with a reward.” He looked at her wanting to see how she reacted to this. “Trust is something one earns, but how are you gaining this trust?” He asked with more narrowed eyes.
“Touch, a basic human need, the need to have physical contact with another human bean, about as much of a need as love its self, a baby will die if it does not get both.” he told her, the EI were just that animal human creatures, that had basic needs and wants. “everything has feelings Paili, weather it is feelings humans give to them, such as plants, or ones they can see, such as a child. And please do not do anything that will confuse them, they should not be playing games with you, make you and them on the same level, and we can not have that, because they have feelings they can feel jealousy, and then that bring about talking with each other, which then turns into an uprising.”
He took another bit out of the sandwich he snatched earlier. “They are experiments, like dogs that are trained to attack, treat them as humans and they will begging to think they have the same rights as humans. Which could mean they will end your life if they have to, they have that raw power to do so. At least Jon knows to make them fear him.”

She gave him a confused look as he questioned her about how she was gaining the trust of the EI.
"I merely play with them. I give them attention they need, and I some times bring remedial games down, like tic tack toe so they don't get frustrated with me when they lose..."
She shrugged lightly, looking at him with eyes that were a slightly more amber shade of brown then before, wait weren't they just dark coffee brown? No it must have been a trick of the light. Her brows furled when he said that they would start an uprising.
"But sir... I have one question on the subject of the touching. If they are afraid of you, then they won't allow you to touch them. But as you've said before, touch is a necessity to all humans or animals to grow and develop at a good pace. Isn't that a bit contradictory?"
The puzzled look on her face grew as she tried to find the logic in the paradoxical comment. She looked at the sandwich he was eating and sighed slightly, that was her lunch. She shook her head slightly and sipped her now cooled slightly coffee.
"Sir. I mean no disrespect when I say this, but even attack dogs trained to attack have a master they trust and look up to, and seeing that Jon, nor you, well that I have seen, have had very much contact with the EIs that desire so much attention that they need. How do you propose that they get the contact that they need whilst keeping the trainers and handlers safe other then to get their attention positively as they continue to grow as killers and also protectors? Because they do need the attention that I have been granting them."
Her temper started to get a bit shorter as she explained her case to the doctor she admired, second only to the boss of the interns: Mr. Jasper Swift. She soon reverted back to her native language: Egyptian.
"And secondly, I do not believe that they are just attack dogs" she said the two words dripping with poison "They are sentient begins that I am perfectly aware that could rip me limb from limb, but they choose not to, and that leads me to believe they are much more then just attack animals trained to kill..."
Her words dripped with scorn as she said those last few sentences.
"And I shall not harm them to make them respect me. I will earn it without harming any of them."
she crossed her arms at him, daring him to contradict her logic on the subject of the unsteady EIs.

“They do not need to be played with.” His eyes narrowed on her. “They are soldiers, not children.” He leaned back in his chair eyes on her still. “You see, they are harder to train the AI’s, I agree that no one would just hurt them, like a dog they are punished when they do something bad and treated when good.”
He placed his hands on top of the others watching that shift in her eyes. “you see we have been developing these creatures for a long time now and only a few have bothered to live this long, they are to valuable to have them misbehave just because you think they need more attention. They get enough, you do not see the Army babying and coddling their men just because you think they need it.”
His voice was starting to become cold but he did not raise it and spoke evenly. “They are not pets, or children, they have seen death, even killed, they must remain hard, giving them a heart might just stop them from killing something that might have killed many just because it has the face of a human.” He leaned back in placing his elbows on the table linking his fingers together.
“You see, if I find that you have been, ‘playing’ with them, giving them affection, then you will be removed from the companies building indefinitely. And there will be no one to stop me from doing so.”

"But most of them are children"
She glared at him, her pissed off tone showing through the Arabic language. Her speech grew more rapid as she went on
"The army allows the troops some kind of recreation, and what do we give them?! nothing! They need something to do other then train, read history about the wars, and memorize fighting techniques. They need something to take their minds off of it before they break down!"
She glared at him with coffee brown eyes again, she loved to get into arguments, yes, but not when it was about other human begins and what they needed, even animals got better treatment then these poor creatures. she growled lightly, making sure it was a human growl and not an animal one like she would like. She shook her head and looked down.
"I apologize Dr. Baxter.... That was out of line..." those words were drenched in regret and worry "It's just that... I get passionate about those that can't speak for themselves when others need to know that they count too..."
She sighed slightly and played with her coffee, no longer hungry or thirsty enough to even look interested in it. She shook her head and sighed lightly. She closed her eyes and started to take in more deep breaths, trying not to change her appearance too much to match her mood, just the shade of her eyes.

Baxter watched her, seeing the anger in her rise. So passionate about the creatures. Silly girl, he knew they were children, he knew that they did not maybe want this life, but there was much worse then what they got, they were in the orphanages, no family and chances of adoption rare. He gently let his fingers rap on the table, being quiet until she was done.
“You are right, they are children, but they could have ended up in a much worse, at least they get food, water, shelter and a purpose.”
He simply said. He watched her now just waiting for her to say something. He sighed slightly and closed his eyes. Something to do, what is there to do, all they need is a walk, they are just like the animals they look like. The EI’s were treated much better then the AI’s.
“You have no idea do you, the EI are not the ones you should be concerned about, if anything it is the AI’s that have it worse.” He looked to her leaning in closer. “You see not even you know what is really going on. And I am going to have to ask you to stay away from all of them.” Carlisle now just waited for the other to talk.

Ula glared at him and sniffed slightly, her rears twitching with each tap of his fingers on the table, the sound grating against her ears as she listened to him.
"Even then they crave a normal life..."
She sighed lightly and bit her lip hard as he spoke of the AIs. She was concerned for them too, even more so then the EIs. she looked down and gave a small growl.
"You think I'm not worried about them either?! I am just as concerned for them as I am for the EIs, even more so because they speak and think like we do. And yet you think that they're just like animals too don't you?!"
She growled at him slightly and closed her eyes again, he thought that she didn't know what it was like to be different, because she was a shifter, because she wasn't human like him. She shivered slightly at the sound of his voice going off again
"I know enough that the experiments need something more then just being treated like animals. The EIs are mostly content, but the more intelligent AIs.... Some are not as happy as you think. Two, actually three, are not very content. A bat a cheetah and a wolf." she said naming three of the younger AIs in the building

Baxter stopped rapping his fingers against the wooden table. “A normal life, you think that this is the worse life for them, children left in this world with out parents, on the streets or living their life’s in an orphanage. Who knows where they would go, this place is not the worse thing that can happen to them.” His eyes narrowed on her.
“And I do not think they are just animals, we are not as cruel as you think, we use simple training methods, they get punished when they do something wrong, they get rewarded went hey do something right, they get medical treatment and food. Jon should not just be off beating them, for no reason at all, for that Jon will get what is coming to him, but for you to sit here and tell me that you think everything should be changed just because you ‘feel’ that way will not happen, in fact it tells me you are not the kind of person we need here. It tells me you are soft, that you get attached, well not matter how much we train them, how much we change them, they still can get killed in a fight. Do not get attached, do not bother to do so.” He moved to stand now, being done with this conversation.
“And no not talk to me about the them, I know more about them, how they feel then you ever will. You will not understand the strange connection that I gain to them over the years, and do not talk to me about that bat, or even Max, their life was almost nothing, and the bat is happy, he does not mind this place, he sleeps the day away and is free at night to go off and patrol the streets, he had more medical exams that allow him out of that cage.” Carlisle was starting to grow angry with her, but he had learn control over the years dealing with Lucca. He took in a calm breath. "Most AI's have accepted their fate, know what to do, making their life easy, because if this we award them, Max has shown this and now guards Lucca, the bat, well he spends some days with me, mostly to make sure his hearing is still strong and how well it still works, but he has that, even the wolf is given 'treats'."

Ula looked at the man whom had hired her based upon her experience with animals. She took another deep breath as her emotions raged within her as she looked at him and sighed slightly, removing all emotions from her face and eyes. She sighed slightly and shook her head. "The EIs get something more then the AIs. They get what every child deserves. But there's the three that I've mentioned before; Stella, Alexander, and Nicholas. The wolf, the bat and the cheetah. They are not as content as you say they are." Her eyes went cold at the thought of her three favorite AIs. She looked down at her hands and dipped her finger into the now chilling coffee and sighed slightly. "Stellana confided in me recently... But she was feeling good after her successful mission, so I highly doubt it meant anything. But she told me of her childhood... She said that her parents were going to give her up, and yet they kept her on a commission from the company. Is that true?" she looked up at him and sighed slightly. She was attached to very few AIs and EIs, but that was to be expected of someone who was like them, a bond was eventually going to form with some of them. She swirled her finger around in the coffee and flicked off the droplets that had stayed on her finger "And Alexander... He is a bat, yes, but he is also a sensitive boy, he is very sensitive boy... He remembers his past and that makes him reserved. It makes him hard to work with if you are working with him on dealing with the vampires taking him in and torturing him. What if he comes back and won't allow anyone to touch him after that experience?" She sighed slightly and closed her eyes. She grew a faint smile as she thought of her most favorite AI: Nicholas the cheetah. "And what of Nicholas? He may be sarcastic, but he's a good boy. I can tell by how badly he wants to be out of the fighting and out of the war on the vampires just by how he looks at me when I go down there." A thought flashed through her head 'Why am I so attached to them? They don't even know my name... They just know that I'm someone to speak freely to....' she sighed slightly and bit her lip slightly, waiting for his next responce to her thoughts. "And I do not think the system should be changed.... Just that the EIs and the AIs need something to take their minds off a recent mission, or keep their minds off of what's going to happen to them in the future...." [/size]

Baxter looked at her he was starting to grow quite pissed off. “Well I do not know about Nicholas, or Stella, but I know about Alex, as he likes to be called.” He said softly trying to keep his voice at a normal level. “I know he is sensitive.” He leaned forward placing his hands on the chair to help hold him self up. “He tells me much more then he will ever tell you, for one he does not talk because he is sensitive, he does not talk and open up simply because he hates his voice.” He looked at her, “he is getting better, knowing what his role is, also because he is an AI he can flee from a battle much easier then a human.”
He then stood straight once more, “and if you keep pushing these ideas I will have to fire you, I hired you because I thought you would be able to detached your self from them, but I see I am wrong, your job is not to talk to them, so from here on in you are stuck in the office, filling paper work, you will not go down there, you will not see them, do I make my self clear?” He narrowed his eyes waiting for her answer.

Ula looked at him in disbelief and shook her head slightly. She never pushed her ideas on him, she merely voiced them, isn't that something humans were big on? the thought of freedom of speech is something that she head a lot of when she was walking down the streets to work. "I have never pushed my ideas onto you Dr. Baxter, I have just voiced them. How is that pushing them onto you? Please explain that to me, I am confused. I never really encountered this in Egypt, so this is rather confusing to me." she blinked at him, her brows furrowed, her eyes a light toffee color, wait, no it was just another trick of the light, or were her eyes always like that? She sighed slightly and shook her head. "Never mind that." her tone was short and very disappointed, but not in him, in herself for allowing herself to be connected to anyone but the other shifters. She sighed slightly, getting up and walking over to the sink to dump her coffee out. "Just tell me why you think that if the system works so well, then why do the AIs want a normal life away from this and all the fighting? Because, in my opinion, unless they are completely ruthless and unemotional, they will never be the perfect fighter that the company is looking for." she looked down at the sink, the coffee slipping down the drain, looking like how she felt. The whole reason why she had signed up for this job was to work with animals, not people who were made into animals that could kill at a whim.

“It is not that you are pushing the idea on me, but every time you socialize with the AI’s you do, giving them hope,” He stood straight once more eyes looking down on her, “if it is kept up they will revolt." His eyes narrowed. He noticed the change in her eyes once more, it could not just be the light to keep changing like that, the human iris did not have that ability to change that much in a short time.
“Same goes with any solder. But they can not have that now can they, they are just as different then the creatures they hunt, a normal life is far from their grasp, there is no little white picket fence and a family, they have to accept their fate just as Max and Alex has.” He turned not to leave the room, “I will see you in my office in 10 minutes to explain and show you, your new job.”
He did not look back to her as he opened the break room doors. He was tired of her telling him that they need to treat the AI like humans, they were no longer humans. They could have died on the streets or ended up being murdered by a adopted parent, To old to be with a normal family any way, this was the next best place.

Post by Dr. Jasper Swift on May 31, 2009 21:33:34 GMT -5
The man sat at his office desk, blankly staring at a headphone set he’d placed there only moments ago. He leaned into his hand, rubbing his chin as he did so. His partner in crime wasn’t picking up his phone, so obviously he was either working or on a break. His hazel eyes glanced towards the clock above the door. Work? Why would Baxter be working? Obviously he wasn’t picking up because he was on a break.
Jasper sat quietly in contemplation, before turning to the air conditioner and turning it to high. Much to his distaste a large dust ball caught up in the vents shot out of the machine and exploded in Jasper’s face. He paused for a moment glaring at the medium sized piece of cooling junk. A mild allergy to dust caused Jasper to push back his chair after a sneeze and roll directly into his desk. There was another pause as he could sense his computer rocking back and forth. Unfortunately the slow rocking was soon followed by a deafening crash. Without one glance over Jasper knew exactly, that it would be a while if ever that he used that computer again.
Moving around his desk, to look at the damage that had been done to his computer; the male let out a small whimper. It laid in pieces across his floor, so rather then actually checking on it he simply thought the worst of it. All his work was done for, all those late nights, the hours spent taking blood samples. So with another grumble and a small sneeze, the doctor turned towards the door. He slowly rolled his way towards the elevator.
Pushing the button to open the door. As he made his way inside, a woman, most likely his new secretary began to run towards him. She waved her hands and began to yell, but before he could he hear what she had to say the door shut. With a shrug he pushed the pad button to move to the next floor. The machine began to move slowly upwards, but about half way up it began to make a weird sound. His eyes narrowed at the numbers “Don’t even thi-“ before he could finish threatening it, the elevator stopped.
The power turned off and a deep yell could be heard outside it. He pushed back against the metal. Cussing and freaking out, the male took in a deep breath. Carefully he moved to the phone and slowly placed it to his ear. As the emergency guy picked up, Jasper began to laugh. The men on the other line franticly tried to explain how they were doing a kind of maintenance on damn thing. And with another laugh, Jasper screamed at them. “Why the hell wasn’t there someone there!? Someone other then my stupid secretary! You are all so fired! Get me out of this damn shit hole!” He continued on for a good half hour.
It was about an hour or so until they got the thing running again. When they finally opened the door, they found inside a not too happy man. His finger was harshly tapping his handle bar and the expression they said was something they never wanted to witness again. Finally out of the elevator and the annoying idiots of a maintenance crew fired, he returned to his quest.
As he made his way towards the break room, he couldn’t help but listen in on a conversation Baxter was having with someone. “I will see you in my office in 10 minutes to explain and show you, your new job.” He froze as the older male finished speaking and opened the door. He gave Baxter a blank stare, trying to figure out if what he had just heard was suppose to be dirty or not. With his brow raised, he rolled his was to the door. Awaiting his partner to hold the door open for him.
